It may be early on, but MLB fans are keeping track to see if their favorite team can make the postseason. Here’s when the MLB playoffs start.

Last season, 12 MLB teams made it into the postseason, six teams in each league. In the American League, the Houston Astros made it to the Fall Classic for the fourth time in six years by sending the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees home. As for the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies clinched the final Wild Card spot and eliminated the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, and San Diego Padres to make it to the World Series for the first time since 2008. At the end of the day, it was the Astros who hoisted the Commissioner’s Trophy once again, after beating the Phillies in six games.

The 2023 MLB season officially began on March 30. With that, the fanbases of all 30 teams keep tabs throughout the campaign to see if the team has a legitimate chance to contend for the World Series.

With that in mind, fans are probably wondering when the 2023 MLB postseason begins. Well, we have the answer for you.

When do the 2023 MLB playoffs start?

The MLB playoffs officially begin on Oct. 3 with the Wild Card Round.

There is no specific schedule set for the postseason as of this writing. What is known is that the last possible day for the postseason will be Nov. 4, which would be Game 7 of the World Series.

The postseason will start with the Wild Card Round, which features the best-of-three series. The two division winners with the best records in each league will earn a first-round bye. Meanwhile, the division winner with the lowest record in each league will earn the No. 3 seed and face the No. 6 seed in the Wild Card Round, while the No. 4 and 5 seeds face off.

From there, the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 matchup will face the No. 2 seed in the Division Series, while the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 series will face the No. 1 seed. Those series will be a best-of-five.

Then, it will become a best-of-seven in both the League Championship Series and World Series.

There you have it. Oct. 3 is the official start for the 2023 MLB postseason.
