Timberwolves vs. Kings prediction and odds for Thursday, July 13 (Old guards equals offense)

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings were stuck on the outside looking in for too long in the Western Conference, so they’ve both gone all-in and find themselves without any notable draft picks on their Summer League rosters.

The Kings have been led by a 25-year-old G League guard out of Saint Mary’s Jordan Ford and the Timberwolves by 23-year-old Brandon Williams who has spent two years predominantly in the G League. 

Those two guards fighting for roster spots will go head-to-head in this one, so let’s get into the odds for this matchup.

Teams without 18-year-old rookie and with a lot of veteran guards who have played professional basketball for multiple years are actually the types of team that tend to have some success in the Summer League.

It’s not that different from the NCAA Tournament when you want teams with experienced guards. 

Both of these teams have them and yet they’re both 1-2, because they just don’t have enough talent around them. However, in their most recent losses, the Kings scored 99 points and the Wolves scored 93. These are high-scoring teams with very little defense to speak of. That’s where the athleticism and talent of first-round guys shows up the most. 

Williams and Ford will get into a showdown, but they’re both solid decision makers with limited turnovers and efficient shotmaking, so that’s going to make this a high scoring game. This is the third highest total of the day, but I think it should be the highest. I love the over in this matchup.
